Ford Explorer 16-23 OEM Hood Ajar Switch Installation Wiring Harness
Vehicles without OEM Hood Switch
For the remote start to function the vehicle must be equipped with the factory hood switch. Start the vehicle and pop the hood, if it shows the hood open in the center instrument/gauge cluster, you do NOT need to do this. You can also look at the photo showing where the factory switch it installed. If there is an empty hole there, you do NOT have the OEM switch. Look in that area for the 2-pin wiring connector. If that is present you only need the OEM switch to mount and plug in (Ford Part: BT4Z-19G366-A). Otherwise we need to insert a pin at the OEM BCM and then ground the other end to tell the vehicle the hood is closed OR install the OEM hood switch. This will work majority of the time, but there is a slim chance the vehicle isn’t set up from the factory to see a hood switch in which case dealer programming will be necessary to activate the OEM hood switch function after installing this wiring.
Alternatively, you can also source out and install the OEM hood switch (Ford Part: BT4Z-19G366-A) / wiring kit (Ford Part: DG1Z-14B504-A). For safety reasons we always recommend installing a hood pin switch directly to your remote start module.
Note: This does NOT include any hood switch OR the OEM hood switch harness. Only our harness pictured.
